The alarming increase in single-use plastics and the impact it has on the environment continues to be a significant and universal concern making India no exception. As mentioned in a report by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), approximately 3.3 billion kilograms of plastic waste is generated each year in the country; a hefty amount of which become pollutants and get dispersed in landfills.
Not only is this an already distressing situation, but its constantly advancing effects are even harder to control in rural and other underdeveloped areas where socio-economic difficulties limit the adoption of sustainable alternatives. Tackling such an issue requires a multifaceted approach that combines both dedication and innovation for the most resilient solution.
With the same vision in mind, Sustainabuild was founded in June 2024 with an aim at increasing access to the use of sustainable materials in India. The project harbors a special focus directed towards undeserving communities, especially focusing on women given the gender disparities exacerbated by climate change. By providing industry based knowledge and skill-training to these women; the initiative aspires to create a ripple effect of positive change, both environmentally and socio-economically.
